Founder Secretary

Sangam Laxmibai

(1911 - 1979)

Sangam Laxmibai was born in Korremula Village, Ghatkesar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.

Her valiant contributions to the political struggle against the Razakars and during the Police Action of September 1948 remain unforgettable in the history of Hyderabad. She was elected to the Hyderabad State Legislative Assembly in the first general elections of 1952. She served as Deputy Minister for Education in the Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Ministry until 31st October 1956, when Andhra Pradesh was formed. Additionally, she was a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education for three years. In Parliament, she actively took initiatives on several key issues, including women’s education, small-scale industries, and rural health.

A child widow, Sangam Laxmibai dedicated her life to social service. She was inspired by, and associated with, eminent social workers like Durgabai Deshmukh. She served as the Founder Secretary of Sangam Laxmibai Vidyapeeth, an educational society committed to empowering girls and women through education, with a special focus on technical education. She was known for her principled, kind, obliging, and affectionate nature.
